Birmingham – Changan will expand its vehicle range with the launch of a new electrified powertrain option. The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05, an intelligent and dynamic C segment SUV, will debut as an efficiency-optimised plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The model is the first to feature Changan’s new Ultra-Hybrid technology, the DEEPAL S05 PHEV is engineered specifically to balance low-emission urban driving with the flexibility to cover longer distances with ease. Based on Changan's BlueCore platform, developed with input from the company’s UK based R&D centre, the system combines the smoothness of electric drive with freedom from range anxiety, staying efficient in congestion, low-speed crawling and frequent stop-and-go traffic while offering confidence and comfort on longer journeys. The new model will be available to UK customers from September, with pre-orders opening over the summer.

Changan offers a new plug-in hybrid variant for the “C” SUV DEEPAL S05

Built around Changan’s new Ultra-Hybrid technology, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV combines a 172-kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a 63 kW 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. Delivering 190 kW of total system output, its powertrain strikes a balance between performance and efficiency. The electric motor is powered by an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which can be charged at up to 11 kW AC and, as standard, also supports fast charging at up to 55 kW. Another highlight is the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which is also included as standard equipment.

Nic Thomas, Managing Director at Changan UK said: “We believe drivers shouldn’t have to compromise when looking to drive electric. The Deepal S05 PHEV offers the range, efficiency and flexibility people actually need, whether they’re in the city or further afield, all in a high-quality SUV designed for real life. It’s about giving customers more choice, more capability and better value all within a sophisticated SUV that feels premium. We look forward to introducing this to our UK line-up over the summer.”

The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV has been optimised for low fuel consumption. In the combined WLTP cycle, it achieves 2.0 litres per 100 kilometres. With a depleted battery, consumption is 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres.

Like all Changan models in the UK, the DEEPAL S05 PHEV comes with a strong reliability promise: a seven-year or 100,000 miles vehicle warranty, complemented by an eight-year or 124,000 miles warranty for the vehicle's three electrical systems.

The model will be introduced first in selected European markets, with the UK launch scheduled for later in the summer and customer deliveries expected to begin in September. Full UK pricing and specification remains to be confirmed.
