Munich – Stylish and dynamic design, advanced electric drive and a complete package of intelligent and advanced infotainment and safety systems: its harmonious overall package makes the Changan Deepal S05, developed specifically for the requirements of European customers, a versatile everyday companion in every season. Journalists from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain had the opportunity to get to know the pioneering all-electric "C+" SUV in detail on 23 and 24 February as part of the Changan Winter Tests 2026 in Saalfelden, Austria. There, the Deepal S05 AWD Max with all-wheel drive demonstrated its outstanding qualities on the dynamic course of the ÖAMTC Driving Technique Centre in Saalfelden/Brandlhof as well as on the test tracks on the surrounding public roads.

"Changan has more than 40 years of experience in automotive production and, with its European Design Centre in Turin and its Research and Development Centre in the UK, has been present in Europe for more than 20 years,” emphasises Nic Thomas, Assistant General Manager Changan Europe and UK Managing Director. “Our many years of European experience give us a special position among Chinese car manufacturers and enable us to consistently meet the demanding European standards in safety, driving dynamics, regulations and customer orientation.”

Changan now present in 16 European markets
In 2025, Changan sold 2.9 million vehicles worldwide, including around one million new energy vehicles (NEVs). Compared to the previous year, Changan's total sales grew by 8.5 per cent, with NEV sales rising by as much as 51 per cent. Changan currently operates sales and service networks in 117 countries and regions around the world. It also has 14 production facilities and 39 plants as well as 79 branches and subsidiaries around the globe. Changan employs 24,000 research and development experts from 31 countries in its 16 research and development centres, 17 technology companies and 180 research laboratories. The company is now represented in 16 markets in Europe. Sales recently started in Italy and Spain, with the market launch in Poland scheduled to follow in the coming weeks.
“We want to establish ourselves in Europe in the long term and build trust,” says Steffen Obst, Head of Sales and Network Development at Changan. ”The Deepal S05, which was developed specifically for European customer needs, marks an important milestone on this journey.” In the medium term – and already the case in many European markets today – Changan is focusing its product portfolio in Europe on electrified and fully electric vehicles, this includes PHEV variants of the Deepal S05 and Deepal S07. At the beginning of next year, the Changan Nevo Q05, a fully electric "B+" SUV, will be added to Changan's model range in Europe.

Changan Deepal S05: Comprehensive connectivity and plenty of space for everyday use
With its genes from the Changan Design Centre in Turin and the Research and Development Centre in Birmingham, the Changan Deepal S05, the star of the Changan Winter Tests 2026, appeals particularly to customers with an affinity for design and technology. The pioneering fully electric "C+" SUV is available with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD). Both variants are exceptionally efficient and agile, with the advantages of intelligent all-wheel drive being particularly noticeable on wet or winter roads. Various driving modes also ensure greater driving pleasure and safety. In the snow mode of the Changan Deepal S05 AWD, the power distribution is consistently designed for stable traction on snow and ice.
The powerful permanently excited synchronous electric motor on the rear axle of the Changan Deepal S05 delivers a maximum power output of 200 kW (272 PS) and a torque of 290 Nm. Its noticeable elasticity and pronounced agility make every journey an enjoyable experience. In the Deepal S05 AWD, an additional asynchronous electric motor on the front axle with 120 kW (163 PS) of power and 212 Nm of peak torque ensures even more driving pleasure and temperament.

Particularly safe and fast charging: the 68.8 kWh LFP high-voltage battery
The energy is supplied by a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate high-voltage battery (LFP battery). Up to 200 kW charging power at the DC fast charging station reduces the charging time in the Changan Deepal S05 to a minimum. In just 15 minutes, the battery is charged from 30 to 80 percent. At the AC charging station, the Deepal S05 charges with up to 11 kW of charging power. Thanks to the Vehicle-to-Load function (V2L), the C-SUV also shows its particularly flexible side: with up to 6 kW of charging power, the vehicle provides energy for external consumers.
The standard heat pump and pulse battery heating noticeably increase the range in everyday use: with rear-wheel drive, the C-SUV consumes only 15.9 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometres in the WLTP cycle, giving it a range of up to 485 kilometres on a single battery charge. The even more powerful all-wheel-drive version with two electric motors achieves a top range of 445 kilometres with a power consumption of 17.5 kWh per 100 kilometres.
The Changan Deepal S05 also offers reliable range in winter. It recently took one of the top spots in the "El Prix" practical test conducted by the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF). At temperatures between minus 8 and minus 31 degrees Celsius, the Changan Deepal S05 AWD still achieved 66 per cent of its WLTP range.
17 pioneering driver assistance systems as standard and a five-star maximum rating in the Euro NCAP crash test
Regardless of the equipment package selected, the Changan Deepal S05 comes standard with 17 intelligent and pioneering driver assistance systems that enable camera- and sensor-supported autonomous driving at level 2. These include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go function, Emergency Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention Warning, blind spot and cross traffic functions, and driver monitoring. The safety design of the Changan Deepal S05 is also impressive in the event of an accident: in the Euro NCAP safety test, it achieved the maximum rating of five stars with very strong results for adult occupant and child safety.
In addition, Changan offers a strong reliability promise: the vehicle warranty is seven years or 160,000 kilometres, and the battery warranty is eight years or 200,000 kilometres.

Changan Winter Tests 2026 as part of the Changan Global Testing Season 2026
The Changan Winter Tests 2026 in Saalfelden are part of the global Changan Global Testing Season 2026, which kicked off in early February with the Changan SDA Intelligence Update & Global Launch of Sodium-Ion Battery Strategy event in Yakeshi, China. In mid-February, the Changan 2026 Global Testing Season made a stop in Italy. On 10 and 11 February, the 2026 Global Winter Experience there marked an important milestone for Changan as it entered the Italian market. Among others, ski racer and three-time Olympic champion Deborah Compagnoni was impressed by the qualities of the Changan Deepal S05 AWD.
