Barcelona – Changan is bringing its new Ultra-Hybrid technology to Europe. The technology makes its debut in the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV - an intelligent and dynamic “C+” SUV and the first electrified-powertrain addition to Changan’s European range. The new model has recently undergone rigorous evaluation by European journalists during road testing in and around Barcelona. The left-hand-drive version is available to pre-order with immediate effect and will be delivered to European customers from the end of July.

The technology: Changan Ultra-Hybrid
As the first model to feature Changan’s new Ultra-Hybrid technology, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV is engineered specifically to balance low-emission urban driving with long-distance travel. Built on Changan’s CPA platform, Ultra-Hybrid combines the smoothness of electric drive with freedom from range anxiety - staying efficient in congestion, low-speed crawling and frequent stop-and-go traffic, while offering confidence and comfort on longer journeys. It delivers 100 kilometres of pure electric range and a total range of more than 1,000 kilometres.
At the heart of Ultra-Hybrid is a 172-kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) paired with a 63-kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, for a total system output of 190 kW that balances performance and efficiency. The electric motor draws on an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which charges at up to 11 kW AC and, as standard, supports fast charging at up to 55 kW. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function is also included as standard equipment.
The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV has been optimised for low fuel consumption, achieving a weighted combined WLTP figure of 2.03 litres per 100 kilometres. With a depleted battery, consumption is 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres.
“With the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV, Changan once again demonstrates the strengths of its Ultra-Hybrid technology and its outstanding value for money,” says Ethan Yin, Head of Changan Europe Business Unit. “This forward-looking ‘C+’ SUV combines cutting-edge technology with premium features at an attractive price point, making electrified mobility accessible to a broad range of customers.”
Available in Pro or Max trim: the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV with extensive standard equipment
The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV is available in Pro and Max trim levels. Even the entry-level Pro model leaves virtually nothing to be desired. Standard specification on the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV Pro includes 17 intelligent advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), enabling Level 2 assisted driving while significantly enhancing both safety and comfort. Also included as standard is a 15.4-inch touchscreen, as well as Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and online navigation. Further highlights include voice control, remote access, vegan leather upholstery and steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seats, electrically folding and heated wing mirrors, and a 360-degree camera with “Transparent Chassis” view.
The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV Max is aimed at customers who value an even higher level of comfort. In addition to the Pro specification, the Max version features electric door handles, a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, driver’s seat lumbar support, heated and ventilated front seats, memory front seats with comfort entry function, a head-up display with augmented reality navigation, a tiltable touchscreen, 64-colour dynamic ambient lighting, and 50-watt wireless smartphone charging.
In both Pro and Max trim levels of the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV, customers have the option to order a tow bar rated for a towing capacity of up to 1,600 kilograms. On the DEEPAL S05 PHEV Max, an optional 1.9-square-metre panoramic glass roof with electric sunblind is also available, creating an even more spacious feel. In addition, from summer onwards, customers choosing the Max trim level will be able to opt for 20-inch alloy wheels in place of the standard 18-inch wheels. Alongside the standard blue trim, customers can also choose from four additional exterior colours. Further details on market-specific pricing for the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV will be available shortly.
552 to 1,310 litres of boot space in the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV
Beyond the drivetrain, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV differs only in minor details from its all-electric counterpart. A wheelbase of 2,880 millimetres and an overall length of 4,598 millimetres ensure impressive legroom for rear passengers. The modified drivetrain layout lifts the boot capacity to between 552 and a maximum of 1,310 litres.
With its Ultra-Hybrid plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 was developed in line with Euro NCAP five-star safety standards. As a fully electric vehicle, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 already achieved the highest five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test at the end of 2025, scoring 94 per cent in the “Adult Occupant” category, 87 per cent in the “Child Occupant” category, 78 per cent in the “Vulnerable Road Users” category and 76 per cent in the “Safety Assist” category.
The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV was designed with a focus on the European market. The CHANGAN DEEPAL S05’s award-winning design was honoured with the prestigious iF Design Award in 2025. It was largely developed at the European Design Center in Turin and is a key expression of Changan’s “In Europe for Europe” strategy. In addition, the European Changan Research and Development Centre in Birmingham was also closely involved in adapting the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 for European customers.
Like all Changan models in Europe, the CHANGAN DEEPAL S05 PHEV comes with a strong reliability promise: a seven-year or 160,000-kilometre vehicle warranty, complemented by an eight-year or 200,000-kilometre warranty for the vehicle’s three electrical systems.
