New ultra-hybrid powertrain option: Changan Deepal S05 PHEV as the ideal entry point into the electric future

CHANGAN EUROPE PRESS RELEASE

  • Designed for Europe: "C+" SUV Changan Deepal S05 available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) from May
  • Up to 100 kilometres of pure electric range and more than 1,000 kilometres of total range
  • 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with up to 55 kW fast charging capacity and vehicle-to-load function

Munich – Changan is continuing to expand its product range in Europe. The "C+" SUV Deepal S05, which launched in the autumn of 2025, will not only be available to order with a fully electric drivetrain, but also as a particularly efficient plug-in hybrid from this May onwards. As a plug-in hybrid, the Changan Deepal S05 PHEV can cover around 100 kilometres purely on electric power, the total range is around 1,000 kilometres (WLTP-certified performance and efficiency figures will be announced following completion of WVTA in April.). The Changan Deepal S05 PHEV is the first in a series of models to feature Changan’s new ultra-hybrid technology, designed for low-emission and long-distance driving.

"The new Changan Deepal S05 PHEV is specifically designed for customers for whom switching to a fully electric vehicle is not yet an option," says Ethan Yin, EVP Changan Europe Business Unit. "With its generous pure electric range, it is the ideal entry point into the electric future: battery-powered in everyday use yet equally accomplished on longer journeys.”

From May onwards, the "C+" SUV Changan Deepal S05 will also be available as a plug-in hybrid.

V2L functionality also available for the Changan Deepal S05 plug-in hybrid

The dynamic Deepal S05, which comes as standard with 17 intelligent and forward-looking driver assistance systems, has been purpose-built for European customers. As a plug-in hybrid, it combines a permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PMSM) producing 172 kW with a 63 kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering a maximum system output of 190 kW for a drivetrain that balances performance with efficiency. Power is sent to the front wheels via both the electric motor and the petrol engine. When required, the petrol engine also acts as an on-board generator, charging the battery without driving the wheels.

The electric motor draws its energy from an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. It can be charged at up to 11 kW via AC and also supports fast charging. The battery of the Changan Deepal S05 PHEV can be charged at a fast charging station at up to 55 kW, taking the state of charge from 30 to 80 per cent in just 15 minutes. A notable addition is the Vehicle to Load (V2L) function: external devices such as laptops, e-bikes or camping equipment can be powered directly from the Deepal S05 PHEV. Further details on pricing and specifications for the Changan Deepal S05 PHEV will be available shortly.

552 to 1,310 litres of boot space in the Changan Deepal S05 plug-in hybrid

Beyond the drivetrain, the Changan Deepal S05 PHEV differs only in minor details from its all-electric counterpart. A wheelbase of 2,880 millimetres and an overall length of 4,598 millimetres ensure impressive legroom for rear passengers. The modified drivetrain layout lifts the boot capacity to between 552 and a maximum of 1,310 litres. The maximum towing capacity remains unchanged at 1.6 tonnes.

With a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the Changan Deepal S05 was developed in line the Euro NCAP five-star safety standards. As a fully electric vehicle, the Changan Deepal S05 already achieved the highest five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test at the end of 2025. The Deepal S05 then scored 94 per cent in the "adult occupant protection" category, 87 per cent in the "child safety" category, 78 per cent in the "pedestrian and cyclist protection" category and 76 per cent in the "assistance systems" category.

The Changan Deepal S05 PHEV was designed with a focus on the European market. The Changan Deepal S05's award-winning design was honoured with the prestigious iF Design Award in 2025. It was largely developed at the European Design Center in Turin and is a key expression of Changan's 'In Europe for Europe' strategy. In addition, the European Changan Research and Development Centre in Birmingham was also closely involved in adapting the Changan Deepal S05 for European customers.

Combined WLTP values:

Changan Deepal S05 RWD: Energy consumption 15.9 kWh/100 kilometres, CO2 emissions 0 g/km, CO2 class: A; AER: 485 kilometres

Changan Deepal S05 AWD: Energy consumption 17.5 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions 0 g/km, CO2 class: A; AER: 445 kilometres

Changan Deepal S05 PHEV: The vehicle is not yet available for sale and is therefore not subject to Directive 1999/94 EC. Fuel consumption and emissions data will be announced immediately after completion of WVTA.
