IAA Mobility: European debut for the Changan Deepal S05
CHANGAN EUROPE PRESS INFORMATION
Munich – Changan presents its second model for Europe: the fully electric Deepal S05 makes its European debut at the IAA Mobility in Munich. The elegant and modern C-SUV combines forward-looking design with the latest technology. Its 68.8-kWh, lithium iron phosphate, high-voltage battery can be charged at a fast-charging station with up to 200 kW, enabling ranges of up to 485 kilometres.
The Changan Deepal S05 complements the Chinese manufacturer's model portfolio in Europe. The fully electric C-SUV makes its European debut at the IAA Mobility in Munich. It is Changan's second model for the European market after the already available, also battery-electric Deepal S07 D-SUV. With roots in the Design Centre in Turin and the Research and Development Centre in Birmingham, the Deepal S05 is a stylish, innovative, and comfortable everyday companion for design-forward and tech-savvy customers.
“Changan’s expansion strategy is based on products tailored to local customer preferences,” says Ethan Yin, Executive Deputy General Manager of Changan Europe Business Unit. “The Deepal S05 embodies this approach perfectly: with its elegant design, advanced electric drive and state-of-the-art safety technologies, it meets the expectations of European customers in every detail.”
Agile in the city, dynamic on country roads, and confident on the motorway, the 4,598-millimetre-long, 1,900-millimetre-wide, and 1,600-millimetre-high Deepal S05 is a versatile companion for every scenario. It looks its best from every angle: Its iF Design Award-winning design combines small details into a cohesive, harmonious whole, giving Changan's new all-electric C-SUV an elegant and forward-looking appearance.
The European Changan Design Centre in Turin was responsible for the Deepal S05’s design. Clean lines, a wide stance, flared wheel arches, and a sporty, dynamic silhouette underline the European character of the five-door C-SUV at first glance and emphasise its presence even when stationary. Frameless windows and electric, flush door handles lend the new model a luxurious look and exceptional aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of just 0.25, the Deepal S05 sets new standards in efficiency and range.
Modern and spacious interior
Its 2,880-millimetre wheelbase provides impressive legroom. Depending on the trim, a 1.9-square-metre panoramic glass roof enhances the feeling of open space. At the heart of the modern and ergonomic interior is a 15.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen. In addition to voice control, it serves as the central control element in the Deepal S05 and can be tilted 15 degrees toward the driver or front passenger to reduce reflections. Depending on equipment package, the Deepal S05 also offers a head-up display with augmented reality technology for online navigation. Over-the-air updates keep the lightning-fast Qualcomm infotainment system fully up to date. The use of vegan leather on the steering wheel and seats highlights that luxury and sustainability go hand in hand in the Changan Deepal S05.
The Deepal S05's 492 to 1,250-litre luggage compartment offers plenty of space for everyday use and travel. The frunk, with up to 159 litres, is ideal for hand luggage or charging cables. For larger transport needs, the fully electric C-SUV is also a capable towing vehicle: With the optional detachable tow bar, it can tow trailers or caravans weighing up to 1.6 tonnes.
Particularly safe 68.8-kWh, lithium iron phosphate, high-voltage battery
The Deepal S05 is available with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The powerful permanently excited synchronous electric motor on the rear axle delivers a maximum output of 200 kW and 290 Nm of torque. Its noticeable elasticity and pronounced agility make every journey an experience. In the AWD variant, an asynchronous electric motor on the front axle adds 120 kW of power and 212 Nm of peak torque, enhancing driving pleasure and performance.
Both variants are powered by a 68.8-kWh, lithium iron phosphate, high-voltage battery (LFP battery). With excellent fire protection, long service life, and minimal use of costly or environmentally harmful materials, it demonstrates Changan's pioneering role in electric mobility. The active radiator grille, which closes at high speeds, further contributes to the Deepal S05’s aerodynamics and efficiency. Additionally, the standard heat pump and pulse battery heating significantly improve everyday range: The RWD variant consumes just 15.9 kWh per 100 kilometres (WLTP), giving a range of up to 485 kilometres on a single charge. The more powerful AWD variant consumes 17.5 kWh per 100 kilometres, achieving a top range of 445 kilometres.
200-kW fast-charging capability
The ‘Energy Interaction Ring Lights’ on the C-pillar indicate the current charging status even before entry. At a DC fast-charging station, the Deepal S05 can charge at up to 200 kW, minimising charging time. In just 15 minutes, the battery goes from 30 to 80 per cent. At an AC charging station, charging is possible at up to 11 kW. With the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, the C-SUV can supply external devices with up to 6 kW of power, demonstrating exceptional flexibility.
Safe and reliable: the Changan Deepal S05
Regardless of the chosen equipment package, the Deepal S05 comes equipped as standard with 17 intelligent and future-ready driver assistance systems enabling autonomous driving level 2. The body is optimised for maximum crash performance, making it a particularly safe everyday companion.
Changan also offers a strong reliability promise: a seven-year/160,000-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year/200,000-kilometre battery warranty. This autumn, the Changan Deepal S05 will be available to order in Germany, starting at € 38,990, setting a bold benchmark for accessible electric mobility.
