Efficient hybrid technology for global demands: Changan unveils BlueCore HEV at global launch event

CHANGAN EUROPE PRESS RELEASE

  • Changan BlueCore HEV as a new intelligent energy-saving solution for fuel vehicles
  • Investment of more than €250 million for the new Changan BlueCore hybrid technology
  • BlueCore HEV system designed to redefine efficient hybrid mobility and provide users with a full-scenario, full-life-cycle mobility solution

Chongqing – China Changan Automobile Group unveiled BlueCore HEV at its global launch event in Chongqing on 30 March 2026, highlighting a new hybrid solution that brings urban fuel consumption into the "2L era."

Positioned as a new intelligent energy-saving solution for fuel vehicles, BlueCore HEV integrates a 500Bar high-pressure direct-injection hybrid engine, a high magnetic-flux high-power hybrid electric drive, a high-performance high-safety battery, and AI cloud-based intelligent control into a deeply electrified hybrid system that does not require charging. During a joint real-road test conducted with media and users, test data show average urban fuel consumption as low as 2.98L/100km for sedans.

Developed in China with global ambitions

During the event, Zhao Fei, General Manager of China Changan Automobile Group, said: “BlueCore HEV is our China solution for global hybrid mobility.” Developed over six years with contributions from more than 1,000 engineers, an investment of more than RMB 2 billion (equivalent to around €250 million), and the mastery of 163 technologies, BlueCore HEV represents both a major technical breakthrough and a milestone for Changan's future mobility ambitions. BlueCore HEV represents a new-generation hybrid technology. By applying electrification to conventional fuel vehicles, it moves beyond the traditional fuel-centred hybrid route and introduces a new model, placing equal emphasis on fuel and electric power, enabled by intelligent control. The system is designed to redefine efficient hybrid mobility and provide users with a full-scenario, full-life-cycle mobility solution.

Engineered for Efficiency, Refinement and Reliability

Developed with global users in mind, BlueCore HEV allows drivers to maintain the familiar convenience of standard refuelling while benefiting from the smoothness of electric drive, reduced fuel consumption, and freedom from range anxiety. In typical city driving conditions, including congestion, low-speed crawling and frequent stop-and-go traffic, the system remains in an efficient operating range.

BlueCore HEV is also engineered to deliver a quieter and more refined driving experience through advanced noise-reduction design, piston stop control and reverse sound-wave cancellation technology. In terms of reliability, the system has undergone more than two million kilometres of full-vehicle reliability validation, over 70 special-road tests, 350 hours of uninterrupted bench testing, and more than 1,000 hours of extreme-condition testing.

At the event, Yang Dayong, Executive Vice President of Changan Automobile, described BlueCore HEV as “a revolution in both energy efficiency and intelligence, from the inside out.” He said Changan's newly developed iDE-H (intelligent Deep Electrified Hybrid) architecture overcomes key bottlenecks of conventional HEV technology and enables advances in economy, driving experience and intelligent functionality.

This innovation draws on Changan's ongoing evolution in powertrain development—from its first self-developed engine introduced in 2012, to the establishment of the BlueCore power brand in 2019. Today, BlueCore technologies are trusted by more than ten million users worldwide, reflecting their global adoption and consistent performance.

Looking ahead, Changan will continue to expand its powertrain portfolio with BlueCore HEV as a core foundation, contributing fresh momentum to the global development of hybrid mobility.

Supporting Europe’s transition to electrification

Changan’s growing footprint in Europe provides the backdrop to BlueCore’s longer-term international prospects. Changan’s presence in Europe began more than two decades ago with the establishment of its European Design Center in Turin in 2001. The company later introduced its European Research and Development Center in Birmingham. In early 2025, Changan marked a new chapter in its international expansion with the commencement of sales in selected European markets and is now present in 16 countries.

In Europe, Changan is pursuing a medium-term focus on electrified vehicles. With the 'C+' SUV Deepal S05 and the larger D-segment SUV Deepal S07, the company currently offers two fully electric model lines.

A third battery-electric model, the 'B+' SUV Changan Nevo Q05, will follow around the turn of the year. Changan has also announced the addition of plug-in hybrids to its European line-up. The Deepal S05 PHEV, for example, will be available from May, offering an all-electric range of around 100 kilometres.

Combined WLTP values:

Changan Deepal S05 RWD: Energy consumption 15.9 kWh/100 kilometres, CO2 emissions 0 g/km, CO2 class: A; AER: 485 kilometres

Changan Deepal S05 AWD: Energy consumption 17.5 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions 0 g/km, CO2 class: A; AER: 445 kilometres

Changan Deepal S07 RWD: Energy consumption 18.6 kWh/100 kilometres, CO2 emissions 0 g/km, CO2 class: A; AER: 475 kilometres

Changan Deepal S05 PHEV and Changan Nevo Q05: The vehicles are not yet available for sale and are therefore not subject to Directive 1999/94 EC. Fuel consumption and emissions data will be announced immediately after completion of WVTA.

Changan unveiled its BlueCore hybrid drivetrain at the end of March.
