Innovation and engineering capability are core priorities for Changan with its 24,000 R&D professionals from 31 countries across 16 R&D centres, 17 technology companies and 180 laboratories. Each new Changan model is developed against long-term durability targets and is validated through extensive testing programmes, including multi-million-kilometre road testing.

Changan has built a long-standing presence in Europe. Since 2001, it has operated its European Design Center in Turin and has expanded research and development capabilities in the UK, including the Changan UK R&D Centre in Birmingham. In recent years, the company has broadened its European footprint with the Global Avatr Design Center in Munich and established its European headquarters in Munich, Germany. Changan positions Europe as a strategic market for technology, safety and brand credibility and is scaling local operations to support sales, service and parts availability.

In the medium term, and already the case in many European markets today, Changan’s European product strategy focuses on battery-electric vehicles, supported by dedicated new-energy platforms designed around charging, comfort, connectivity, safety and total cost of ownership. The company highlights battery safety as a system approach spanning cell, pack, thermal management and continuous monitoring, supported by digital battery management capabilities. Changan also emphasises connected-vehicle services and compliance with European requirements as it expands its product lineup and customer services in the region.

Currently Changan is operating in 16 European markets. The company is running its own National Sales Companies (NSCs) in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. All necessary activities are underway to establish the Italian NSC as soon as possible. In other European countries such as Norway, Greece, Serbia or Portugal regional distribution partners are responsible for bringing Changan vehicles to customers. For example, Changan has also set the course for its market launch in Denmark and Poland. Changan parts centres in the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom ensure a fast and reliable supply of spare parts, reducing customer downtime to a minimum. The company works closely with leading European financial service providers, such as BNP Paribas, to offer modern and flexible financing and leasing solutions. Allianz Partners roadside assistance already is available in UK and will be rolled out to other European markets in the near future.
